What are Displacement Transducers?

Displacement transducers are of many types. In this article we will be elaborating about the linear variable displacement transducers. It is one of the most important types of transducers because it has a very wide range of application. The popularity of displacement transducers is because of the fact due to its linear function behavior; it is very easy to read the measured value and is very easy to handle. The principle behind the working of the linear displacement transducers is the conventional theory of mutual induction. The transducer converts the displacement which is given to it as an input into equivalent amount of electrical energy.

A the intensity of this converted electrical energy is responsible for moving the pointer on the calibrated meter .The construction principle of these transducers is very simple ,it consist of two types of windings .The core of the transducer is covered by the primary winding whereas the side of the transducers are covered by secondary windings. One of major advantages of using such displacement transducers are they are very accurate and precise in their measurements. These high precision transducers can measure displacements of the order of millimeter. Displacement transducers also consume a very small amount of power and are highly sensitive.
